The political crisis rocking Rivers State,south/south
Nigeria, took a turn for the worse on Wednesday,
with thousands of youths under the auspices of the
Rivers Peoples Assembly, a mass civil society
movement,took to the streets of Port Harcourt ,the
state capital demanding the resignation of Governor
Chibuike Amaechi.
Security was unusualy tight around the Government
House in the old GRA area of Port Harcourt as Anti-
Terror Squad of the Nigeria Police with several
Armoured Personnel Carriers deployed to ensure
that the anti-Amaechi protesters do not cause a
breach of the peace or attempt to enter the Government House.
The protesters ,most of whom are wearing T-shirts with anti-Amaechi slogans also carried banners and
placards calling on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to probe all financial dealings in the
state under Amaechi's watch.
