NewsMedia: NGF crisis: Ameachi try to impose himself for second term and we said No!

Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State
yesterday revisited the crisis in the Nigerian
Governors' Forum (NGF), accusing his Rivers State
counterpart and Chairman of the group, Mr.Rotimi
Amaechi, of attempting to impose himself for a
second term.
The move ,according to him, negates the constitution
of the NGF.
Gov.Apabio,speaking on Channels Television, said:
"The only thing that happened in the governors'
forum is that our chairman, Governor
Amaechi ,attempted to go for a second term, to
reinstall himself and we said no.
"The agreement we had that one (the Chairman of
the Governors' Forum) should go for only one
tenure."
He alleged that in the bid to push through the
Amaechi for- another- term agenda "a constitution
was suddenly produced which we disputed; we said
no."
He said the governors' agreement at the onset of the
NGF was that the chairman would serve for only one
term so that there won't be acrimony amongst the
rank and file of governors.
"The southern part will do two years and the
northern part will do two years for equity," he said.
There was no response from the camp of Gov
Amaechi at press time. One of his aides declined to
comment when contacted on the phone.
Gov.Akpabio leads the PDP Governors' Forum which
was created apparently as a counter-balance to the
NGF,a common platform for governors of the nation's
36 governors.
The election of the next Chairman of the NGF has
been scheduled for June.
Akpabio also spoke yesterday on his senatorial
ambition in 2015 at the end of his second term as
governor.
He said : "The same godfather who helped me to
become governor will help me again.
"I am definitely going to take up the challenge given
me by my people.
"They are saying that I should not retire. Initially, I
was thinking of retiring after the stress of being a
working governor for
